History

The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. is the largest bank in Japan, which was established on January 1, 2006, with the merger of Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, Ltd. and UFJ Bank Ltd.

The bank serves as the main arm of the commercial banking and retail business of Mitsubishi UFJ financial group.

1880 Mitsubishi Bank is created (株式会社 三菱 銀行) Yokohoma Specie Bank is created
1946 Renames Yokohoma Specie Bank to Bank of Tokyo (株式会社 東京 銀行)
1996 Merger of 2 banks creates Bank of Tokyo - Mitsubishi (株式会社 東京 三菱 銀行)
2002 Creation of UFJ Bank due to 3 mergers
Sanwa Bank
Tokai Bank
Toyo Trust and Banking Co.
2006 Merger Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi and UFJ to create Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd.
2014 Merger Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ and Union Bank.
